How to design a website?
“Successful Website Design” is a part of our webdesign tips series. This webdesign-articles resource has been created for the webdesign community, web designers and programmers, as well as website design tips for small business.
Using creativity and a visual impression, we capture the attention of the user for transferring the company’s important messages. For creating a stable brand, the web site design is to be based on a clear media target for conveying the desired messages. Also, the visual elements and the content in the web site design are to support this goal. The identification of the brand and the elements reinforcing it creates consistency, recognition and authenticity.
The identification of the brand and the new image of the client is to be supported at the web site with original stylish elements such as the emphasizing of parts of the designed elements, static or dynamic, capturing the attention of the user who enters the site, attracting him to stay and browse the site.
Great website design elements
• Icons and drawings that are to be custom designed for the client, identifying its fields of activity, products and services.
• Dynamic Flash parts in the headings, incorporating images, visual elements and dynamic graphic drawings.
• Also, emphasis is to be given on various templates for the main and secondary halls, i.e. main, secondary and internal pages. (Click here to read more about dividing large websites into information centers).
Each element, textual or graphic, is to be clearly displayed. The purpose of the element is to convey a specific message to the user. The selection of the element and the manner it is placed in the general layout will have an uncompromising effect over the power of the message.
“Less is more” theory
The Less is More theory underlines the use of spaces for “airing the sketch” and creating a pleasant, professional browsing experience. Use of a clean, smooth design line, conveys messages clearly.
Controlled use of graphic elements, static and dynamic
Elements are not to be used as illustrations, drawings or other dynamic elements, which are distractive. If the element does not add anything, it diminishes, and should be removed. This means that when these elements are used, they should be used intelligently and correctly.
Use of visual elements
The use of visual elements in the customer’s site is one of the most important components for relaying and transferring messages on the Web. The use of images characterizing the company and reflecting its activity is highly recommended.
Use of colors
Color is an effective, powerful visual communication tool – if it is used intelligently and carefully. When colors are used properly, we underline the messages that are important to us. Colorfulness also emphasizes and accompanies the viewer’s view to major sectors.
Flash technology
Use of dynamic visual technology for promoting important marketing messages and a feeling of innovation, progress and identification with the company’s field of activity, meaning dynamism on one part while maintaining a positive, serious attitude on the other. For example, on the homepage, the central hall, the user’s gaze may be focused using a short flash clip, which is located in the center of the sketch. This clip is to include images and short textual messages, which are to promote the main messages on the company, its products, objectives, etc.
