A growing number of people are searching the web for luxury brand website design tips. This is not an easy task since you must learn these luxury brand website design tips from the professionals themselves. We asked Vered Carmel, the Creative Director of Shine – a leading website design company, to give us a few web design pointers: “Creating a luxury brand website design is not an easy thing to do; in order to achieve a brand luxury website you will need to combine pure graphical experience, a good eye for balancing elements and yes, some more experience.”
So what are the design rules you need to consider when it comes to planning a luxury brand website design?
One of the most important things about luxury brand website design tips is being consistent throughout the design and keeping things to a minimum.
The first rule of design says that each element needs a reason. I do not advise using elements just because the designer thinks they’re cool. Each element needs to convey something so that the sum of all elements would achieve a certain goal that would strengthens the brand. It’s like players on a field, each player has a certain role so that the whole group could work effectively and win the game!
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe once said: “God is in the details.†Personally, I prefer the Charles Eames quote: “The details are not the details. They make the design.â€
This brings us to the second rule of design, which is paying attention to details.
Paying attention to details is highly crucial in every design. That is what separates the luxury brand website design from the regular website design. When the designer is keeping close attention to details, every little thing, no matter how small or trivial, will be in the right place, balancing the whole design. Nothing will be left to chance.
Which fonts should I use for a luxury brand website design?
Luxury brand website fonts must be classical fonts. The selection can vary from Times New Roman to Century Gothic as long as you are consistent. The consistency factor in luxury brand websites design is crucial. Be consistent with your font choice and try not to use more than two fonts at a time. If you must use quirky fonts, use them scarcely and only if it’s required as one of the brand’s guidelines or simply a must have.
What colors do you recommend for a luxury brand website design?
Same as before, the colors themselves don’t matter; they can be black, white, red or dark blue – It is not the color itself but the combination of colors that makes the difference between a luxury brand website design and a regular website design. Think of what the brand stands for, if it’s a message of leisure you might reconsider using a set of gradient color tones – use solid colors not a Photoshop gradient effect. If the brand stands for something bold, then you should also be bold with your color choice, maybe a high contrast combination of black and pink or arsenic green.
If you’re having difficulties in choosing a color scheme then you can always read more about Adobe Kuler color scheme generator. This is a great web application that provides you with color schemes, which users have come up with and this should be a good quick start for learning about and choosing a good color combination.
“Less is more†when considering a luxury brand website design
The “Less is more†theory underlines the use of spaces for the purpose of airing the design. Don’t forget that even white space has its purpose; it provides a certain balance to the different elements; it defines spaces and areas and gives room to breath. Think of a crowded room, it’s stuffy and in most cases unpleasant, as opposed to an airy room where the windows are open, you have plenty of room to dance around and it smells good too.
Also, if you’re looking for luxury brand website design tips you can always find pure inspiration from Giorgio Armani to Van Cleef & Arpels – pay attention to details and work towards a well-defined luxurious strong brand.
