Located on a 622 sq. meters lot on a hill at the foot of mounten Yatsugatake in Yamanashi, Japan, this small wooden house is called ‘Atelier for calligrapher’ by Japanese firm Kochi Architect’s Studio.

With a compact 62 sq. meters floor space, this one-of-a-kind house consists of two floors, a large atelier space and a small villa, as well as a roof terrace overlooking the surrounding rice fields.

The unique form of the structure consists of a sloped, over hanged volume to the north, providing the residents with a better outlook of the surrounding views while eliminating the need for heavy snow maintenance.
