A successful blend of traditional values and modern design gave birth to an exquisite two-story building in Petropolis, Brazil. With a very large constructed area of 1200sqm. this young couple’s house stands brilliantly located in a luxurious natural context featuring mountain, river and tropical vegetation. Wood plays a crucial role in the making of House in Itaipava in order to obtain an instantaneous sense of integration with such a particular environment.
An elegant front porch welcomes all inhabitants and visitors to a world of comfort and relaxation. The ground floor presents an L-shaped plan where social and private zones are perfectly distributed in separate areas. A double-height hall with a staircase receives us providing access to the main levels.
Living and dining room share the same open space with a direct relation to the exterior garden contrasting with the isolated service area – kitchen, laundry and storage – also connected to an independent volume for domestic help.
The private areas are positioned at the opposite side of the ground floor plan: two double bedrooms with bathroom and respective study rooms. The first floor is composed by three master bedrooms with bathroom and an extra room for a flexible use.
An unexpected basement plan reserves the final surprise: an indoor pool, barbecue area and a chillout lounge area that can be opened to the outside. When the room-height sliding windows are pulled back, the rooms of House in Itaipava open onto trees and fresh tropical air, blending architecture and nature in a simple gesture.
