Minimal Furnishings… Maximum Style.

You’ll feel right at home in the Stockholm apartment of Karin Blom, a designer at Filippa K. Peek, and her family. The soft weathered herringbone wood floors invite you in and the light saturated volumes make you linger. I love the interplay of funky modern, classic treasures, flea market finds, and well-worn surfaces. The residents and their guests become the stars in this apartment.

One of my favorite elements is how the unadorned and not at all fussy windows play a bright supporting role to the animate and inanimate occupants. Pops of color and texture keep the mood light and speak volumes about comfort with flair and without pretension.

The sink-in sofa and painted-to-disappear cabinets are flattered by the airy seating and tables. This mix of stylish informal seating offers easy flexibility too. The kitchen table, whether used for dining or crafts, grows out of the floor and is highlighted by the soft white cabinets. Carrera marble counters and back splash hint at luxury and style.

Moroccan tile entices you to explore the bright and airy family areas. Slide open the laundry doors and bright pink paint makes even doing laundry a pleasure, instead of a chore. The residents’ personal taste creates a simple yet sumptuous luxury, especially in the wall and floor coverings of the couple’s bedroom. This delightful apartment has a lighthearted elegance that can only be collected and developed over time by a deft and talented hand. Less stuff, more style…give it a try!
