S House: Understated luxury with views to the Mediterranean

There is just so much love one can have for a material like concrete! Some consider it cheap and cold, while others, myself included, see all the magic it withholds, ready to be unfolded in magnificent architectural elements. When concrete gets in the hands of the talented Belgian architect Nicolas Shuybroek it becomes a means of building poetry in three dimensions. Locate it in the French Riviera Cap d’Antibes in the Cote d’Azur and the outcome is a super inviting summer house with views to the Mediterranean sea.

In case you had doubts about how warm concrete can appear, seeing its effect in the S House should quiet them all down. The house is like a multidimensional statue, where inside and outside merge into one. Storage is brilliantly offered generously, without disturbing at all the flow and feeling of unity.

The open plan of the living, dining and kitchen area ensures easy living, with simplicity and focus on the absolute basics. I love the inviting sofa with what is a dreamy view, the dining table and the warmth the reclaimed wood used as a coffee table brings. In the bathroom, the bathtub under the skylight promises the most wonderful beginnings and ends of the day.
