Low Maintenance Glamour in Sweden

I think we all agree that home ownership is a dream we all share and with that typically comes an enormous responsibility to maintain our investment. That’s why I love this house in Sweden that minimizes maintenance by design.

Step inside the crisp brick and glass house and you’ll find a bright open space for living, dining, and cooking. The shiny white cabinets are free of fuss and detail and hardware. The bedroom floor above makes the kitchen intimate in feel adjacent to the double height dining and living areas. Throughout the floors are sandy colored large format and easy to care for tiles. The dining area is defined by a plush rug and looks out on to a private brick paved terrace.

A full height roughly burnished ashen grey concrete fireplace warms the living area. Wood is stored in a vertical wall recess right where you need it. Defined by a deep shag rug, this space and the rest of the home use the finest in furnishings and materials of a neutral palette. Over the creamy low sofa, an abstract art piece pulls together all the room’s colors. Outside the full height wall of glass is another terrace, this time of wide wood planks.

Upstairs the main bedroom is a cocoon of white with polished gleaming concrete floors. A simple but plush bed and a minimal modern steel desk and chair are the only furnishings. A large window starts at the floor and reaches toward the ceiling as it fills one entire wall. For privacy and extra shut eye, just pull down the shade.
