As we increasingly look to nature for inspiration, we can discover raw beauty in the striations of a simple grain of wood and the blurred patterns of the sky. In this home, shapes are layered and deconstructed, which brings an incredible silence and serenity to the interiors.
This home was specifically designed to showcase the views of the surrounding deciduous forest, equally breathtaking in the winter when the trees are bare and have a naked sculptural quality, as well as in the summer when the soft green foliage compliments the masculine tones of this contemporary abode.
In a sinuous stream of consciousness, the cantilevered wood beams take center stage in this home. Polished concrete covers functional and environmentally responsible radiant heating underneath the floors, bringing warmth to this home year round.
An east-west orientation allows this home to enjoy the benefits of passive solar power, and the massive fireplace adds a necessary touch of warmth.
As we move upstairs, we find sleeping quarters, work area and a library all oriented to the view through the massive two story windows. Dark wood floors provide contrast to the stark white walls.
Simple bedding adds a necessary balance of softness and an invitation to rest.
Cabinetry is thoughtfully placed throughout the house to allow for storage and artful items collected by the owners.
By visually dividing this home through the use of natural materials and sunlight, these thoughtfully designed spaces allow its owners to co-exist in peaceful harmony with nature.
