Montreal Storefront Condo

This storefront home in Montreal embraces city life at ground level. Designed by Anne Sophie Goneau, it is very public and very private at the same time. With a common list of maximizing space and day light, these home owners discovered raw original details that became major players in the design.

In plan, the entrance and living area face the busy street, separated by a deep brick patio, a glass door, and an unadorned and very large window wall. Aligned with the entrance are the kitchen and dining. The original brick walls stretch from front to back on both sides. Frankly, they steal the show, as the home owners intended.

A minimal kitchen is composed of a glossy white island with a breakfast bar. Sleek reflective black base cabinets and full height food prep and storage are a strong tie between the contemporary simplicity and the brick’s rustic charm. Perforated white chairs surround a monolithic white table under a mirrored ball pendant light.

Surprisingly, the main bedroom faces the dining area. Divided simply by floor to ceiling glass, both the bedroom and the dining area benefit from the placement. Without a hard dividing wall, both feel expansive and the sleeping space enjoys the texture and color of original hemlock stretching horizontally across the corridor wall beyond.

A full height crisp white library wall shelters an additional bedroom and the bath. This bedroom also has a glass wall expanding it in to the corridor. The bath is an oasis of marble, stainless steel, and smoky glass.
