Poligon

One of my favorites parts about selecting a piece for my home is when there is a great back-story behind it. Purchasing one of Poligon’s sculptures is one of those stories…

The transformative power of design is clearly at work in this inspiring collection of unique metal sculptures by Poligon. A collaboration between two former students at the Royal College of Art in London; Rodrigo Solorzano is the mastermind behind the origami-like paperfold designs and Matthew White brings his extensive experience in turning concepts into reality.

Poligon has recently announced the start of their Kickstarter campaign. This captivating collection was inspired by their love of animals in nature. The first in this series are a penguin, gorilla and humpback whale. What makes these sculptural objects so fascinating is that they are shipped to you as a flat sheet, with magnets already adhered to assist you in the assembling the final animal that you have selected.

For that special someone who seems to “have everything”, this would make a great gift and also help a fledgling business get off the ground. To date, their Kickstarter campaign has raised over 47,000 euros, well above their targeted 15,000 euros.

If you are not aware of the movement, Kickstarter is a great way to invest in a new company and also purchase a unique object. For Poligon, pledges range from 10 to 290 euros and include pieces such as a dragonfly, mantis, ant, and woodlouse and for those of you with a wry sense of humor, even a bedbug!

Not only are these partners entrepreneurs but also they have already created an elephant sculpture with charity in mind. For every elephant purchased, they will donate another one to the www.elephantfamily.org.
