Design of a pastry shop, storefront

This pastry shop is a delicious recipe based upon restraint. Well, at least the architecture is restrained. Atelier Moderno & Anne Sophie Goneau blended elegance with texture to highlight the colorful confections showcased in a shop on a vibrant street.

Unexpected and understated, this is not your typical bake shop. Instead of traditional confectionary hues and scents stimulating every sense, the experience within is sublime. A warm grey palette spreads over the entire space from the polished concrete floors to the side walls of uneven worn brick. Even the radiators quietly warm the space through their grey drizzle.

Uniting the display area with the production space is a swath of hemlock stretching from front to back on the ceiling. A three-quarter height wall separates the bakery. This openness allows sounds and aromas to waft from the kitchen, enticing your imagination and your taste buds.

The pastries are displayed and offered for your enjoyment in well-deserved jewel-like cases. Black steel containers with clear glass tops protect the delicacies. The white display surface accentuates the confections’ colors and each pastry is individually presented, yet within its own family.

Refrigeration for the display units is hidden in the basement below. Its piping runs through just one larger leg while the displays rest lightly on three additional thin elegant steel supports. Recessed LED strip lighting accentuates the hemlock ceiling and washes a brick side wall. A singular long lean LED suspended ribbon highlights the delicious product.
