mid century house remodel jhid 800x509 - William Fletcher House

William Fletcher House

Although most remodeling projects today bring with them ample white space, muted by soft grays and laden with wood flooring, this Jessica Helgerson Interior Designs project took a spin back to the mid-century, with just enough modern appeal to create a fresh spin on an old classic.

This 50s-something house was originally designed by Portland architect William Fletcher, and both the current tenants, as well as the previous one, were and are – ironically – artists.

Collectively they clearly have an appreciation for authentic expression, which was largely maintained amidst the remodel – and beautifully displayed.

The overarching flavor of this home is fueled largely by the natural element of wood, which is utilized throughout the space in almost all of its entirety.
Additions such as the scarlet kitchen island, has an Asian origami flare to it, and the reading nook set to the side of the kitchen is drenched in natural light from the floor to ceiling window.

Whether you are a child of the 70s, or simply have an appreciation for this time period, this home is definitely a nostalgic walk through memory lane – from the bold thick carpeting, to the wood paneling, to the structure and layout of the three various fireplaces.

This home truly makes one want to sit amidst it’s wooden wonders, spin some vintage records, and re-capture a time when peace and love were all the rage!
