This stunning design object has “arrived” from Lijiang, China. As it is already clear from the name of the house, the project is all about water!
Yet, the water is not dynamic here, no waterfalls or streams are implemented here – the tranquil and huge water surfaces are the main instrument of the architectural design of this house.
However, the architect’s decision to use water so generously throughout his project was not accidental, not at all! He tried to connect the new object to the historical identity of the place.
The thing is that Lijiang is an ancient settlement, famous for the developed network of water channels and bridges. So, choosing big water surfaces in their tranquil stage, basic unpretentious architectural forms and traditional materials, the architect created a building which is a totally modern house, but which – at the same time – is reconnected to local traditions.
The house tells us the story of its place, it speaks the language of its terrain, it belongs here.
The building volumes, used here, are mostly the 1-storeyed, double-pitch-roofed house blocks of steel-and-wooden structure. They form a series of inner courtyards, inside of which the star part is, of course, being played by water.
Most of the facades, which this way or another overlook the pools, are covered with wooden shutters. Another material, widely applied in the exterior design, is stone cladding. A system of stone cladded walls surrounds the house and water pools, protecting its private areas, structuring its territory, but leaving the house open to the overview. No doubt this project leaves a very harmonious and positive impression.
