What an interesting structure to be seen from one of the busiest highways of Singapore: among other conventional detached houses of the vicinity, the reddish-yellow segmented wall-and-roof planes stand out extraordinarily. They seem to loyally defend something precious, situated behind them, from the harshness and noise of the road.
The precious thing behind the segmented elevations turns out to be a 4090 sq. ft. private house for a multi-generational family.
The plane segmented facade hides the surprisingly developed and extremely interesting scenario of the inner space of the house behind it. The four levels of the house interact with each other in an interesting manner, creating the best possible conditions for the limited site area and noise / sun protection.
The first exciting feature about the house is that it is dug into the ground, so that an additional below-ground level is created. And… the living room is situated there! It’s perfectly planned, being linked to the garden, which is also partly lowered in comparison to the ground level. As a result, an exciting, well sun-and-noise-protected and comfortable zone is created here.
Not only the living area is put into this zero level: the master bedroom and bathroom are also situated here (which is rather unusual, because in most cases active and passive zones are segregated into different levels). But here, trying to escape the active sun and overwhelming road noise, the location of the main bedroom was carefully planned and designed.
