Casa K: architecture and fashion

Sometimes architecture establishes a close relation with the universe of fashion…Casa K in Sao Paulo, Brazil testifies this special type of connection. Fashion often refers to a distinct trend in the style with which a person dresses. Well, the client was a stylist and a built structure was already erected. The conceptual approach to this project was quite obvious: to dress an existing body.

The “model” has a total floor area of 566sqm distributed on three levels. The chosen material for the dress was based on perforated metal paneling with a unique pattern of a leaf. How refreshing, don’t you agree?

But let’s explore the interior of this exquisite project: garage, service areas and a home theater are placed in the basement. The ground floor is reserved for all the main social areas: kitchen, dining and living room while the first floor respects the intimacy required for private areas – three bedrooms and respective bathrooms.

The use of a metallic tissue to dress the entire facade of Casa K allowed the maintenance of the existing openings in their original state. This option lead to an ingenious solution that reinforced the idea of unity and integrity between the old and the new. Huge sliding doors create different scenarios between the dining room, corridor and kitchen, bringing flexibility into the interior of the house.

A water basin along with a small garden invites all the occupants to benefit from the warm Brazilian climate, creating the perfect symbiosis between interior and exterior spaces. Bright white surfaces rule the interior while wooden pavements guide our steps through this unique example of how architecture can emerge from fashion…
