OS House: a green roof on a Spanish coastline

A modern two-story holiday house sits on a 30 meter-high cliff facing the Spanish Bay of Biscay coastline. With its magnificent vantage point it has to deal with an unstoppable force of nature: the Northern sea wind. A suspended black volume seems to float over the cliff, like a piece of rock that has been patiently carved by the harsh sea wind.

OS House was conceived as an artificial extension of the coastline, so a green roof establishes the horizon line seen from the street access. The main program develops in the first floor, over a ground floor that consists of garage, facilities, storage, porch and a southern back garden sheltered from the strong and persistent sea wind.

A central staircase guides to the upper level where a dynamic set of patios organizes the domestic program. Social areas are concentrated at one side of the building while private and guestrooms are positioned on the opposite side. In fact, OS House is organized in two different zones: the main house and the guesthouse.

Living and dining room share the same open space directly connected with the kitchen and two double bedrooms. The remaining program is composed by two sets of double bedrooms with private bathrooms separated by internal terraced patios. A spiral staircase leads to the green roof where a splendid view can be appreciated…even when the sea wind seems to howl.
