Rustic cottage in Sweden

Are you ready for yet another visit to a gorgeous property? This time we are flying to {well, unless you are already located there!} the north of Sweden geographically and chronologically back to the 18th century. A fabulous combo don’t you think? This rustic farmhouse has been carefully and so beautifully renovated by the owners and the architects and designers they hired, in order to keep intact some of its charm dating back to the years, while becoming modern and functional for the needs of a rather large family.

Gunilla and Sven Montan wished that every one of their four children and their families would be spending time on the farm. That’s why the four winged residence was designed so that there is enough private space with a kitchen and bathroom for all four of them. While renovating, traditional material and local craftsmen have been chosen and used, with evident respect and love to the original architecture.

Exposed beams, painted wood, concreted, walls that are proud to show their age all contribute to creating a cozy and comfortable environment. I love the simplicity and the informal tone of the living area, which Mrs Gunilla prefers to call as an area to philosophize in.

A wooden bench, a bamboo armchair, pretty pillows, cushions and blankets with beautiful texture brought from trips, a gorgeous patterned rug, an improvised table and flowers possible from the garden or the local forest in the simplest of glass vases… doesn’t all that gently whisper happiness to you? Relaxation & rejuvenation? Imagine the weekends here… With lots of action cooking taking place in the both kitchens.

The central, big one made from Ikea stainless steel cupboards and a wooden working surface, all resting on the charming stone tiles floor, much like the wooden round dining table does. And then there is this smaller and super basic kitchen in the barn, having only but the essentials. Just like back in time. Huge casseroles, woven baskets, wooden utensils, another beautiful rug… the more I stroll in this farmhouse through the pictures, the more I wish I could be there in person. How about you? Would you enjoy your weekends spent there? Maybe just a visit or why not, a permanent settlement!
