Since I was a teenager, I’ve wanted to restore the huge brick former furniture factories of my home town. Thankfully this is happening to abandoned factories all over the country and here’s an exquisite example. Designer Kristina Wilson took the basic loft formula of concrete structure + brick walls + wood floors + large windows = fabulous and mixed in personality from distinctly different eras. Note how the color is all in the furnishings and the white walls and structure provide a canvas.

I love her unexpected blend of color and pattern. Large mod graphic pillows lounge on the crisp velvety dove grey sofa. A traditional wing back chair is brought up to date with a pink, purple, and orange Moroccan ’esque fabric. Of course the acrylic side tables are a relatively recent introduction.

Texture’s a key player here as well, and I’m personally smitten by the smooth and porous texture of the raw concrete. Chunky rugs add color and comfort in the living area and bedroom.

In the dining area, a Roman arch window turned mirror reflects jewel tone antique goblets and a gilt urn lamp and provides visual texture. All of these rest on a black steamer trunk whose tales I’d like to hear. The collection of prints and paintings over the glass dining table shows that you can create great effect with a mix of pieces.

The bedroom is colorful yet soothing. Grey and white paisley cushions the bed and I’m a big fan of unique side tables and lamps. The yellow lacquer cabinet evokes an era far distant from the modern interpretation of paisley.
