A wooden… apartment? Somehow the adjective wooden is usually accompanying nouns like table, chair and house but apartment, no! At least not until the Stockholm based construction company Folkhem made it a reality. This lovely apartment is a part of a unique project consisting of 4 houses and 124 apartments in Sundbyberg Beach Park just off the waterfront – all designed by Sweden’s Wingardhs Architects. It will be the very first eight-story building built entirely of wood in this part of Stockholm. I still cannot get over the beauty of this apartment’s exterior and imagine how it would feel to actually be at the veranda totally surrounded by wooden floors, walls in combination with some clear glass and breathtaking views to nature.
Unlike its exterior, this minimalist Scandi apartment design features totally white walls, with the kitchen being the only room where wood is encountered again, except for the wooden floors throughout, this time on the working surface and the paneling – instead of tiling. The window frames as much as the door frames throughout the whole apartment are made from wood and are sufficient into adding enough coziness into the otherwise minimal and mostly white space.
A white sofa I’ve totally fallen in love for, tables in grey or natural wood, a seemingly spontaneous yet well thought of and artfully put together collection of objects on the sideboard, a super slim, metal, decorative ladder in the bedroom, hanging baskets or others placed on the floor are features of this home that give out its very special tone. A tone speaking of being connected to nature, of living slow, of enjoying life and of celebrating home living even if in an apartment. Should the circumstances allow it, I would move in in a heartbeat!
