Podger Holmes Apartment: Jewel Box Secrets

Once again genius design and expert execution make a space problem vanish so that you’d question its existence. Only traces of the originally divided with walls home remain within the once again gleaming original hard wood floors. Of which I absolutely love the rhythm of the regularly spaced nails.

The now open plan living, dining, kitchen is almost completely swathed in white on most walls and all ceilings. The upholstered furnishings are draped in pearl as well as the glossy dining dome light.

Dividing the washed in day light open area from the bedrooms is a jewel box with both secret and forthright compartments. Capping the end is a softly sheened in black open book case wall with a central doorway leading to closets and bedrooms beyond. Two simple metal rods leap out from the wall and dangle bare bulbs to illuminate this library.

On the living side a compact kitchen of sleek white cabinets and counter nestles under a large window. The full length of the adjacent wall is covered in crisp tall slim flush doors concealing much needed storage. Open those nearest the kitchen to reveal a black cabinet and shelved china cabinet, coffee and cocktail bar. Square black tiles with a light grey grout create a tall and interesting back splash in this impressive covert compartment. Just close the doors when it’s not in use. I’d leave them open because it’s just so lovely!
