Annedal Apartment

I’ve arrived, unwillingly, at the point where I’ll accept stunning compositions of tone and texture and materials as a relatively acceptable replacement for color. Here’s a case to support my point, this monochromatic apartment in Stockholm, Annedal specifically.

A crisply modern interior, ubiquitous wood plank floors, pearly walls, ivory ceiling, and awash with light from windows that touch the floor, all make a strong foundation on which to build. Lounge and dining share the wall of sliding windows with a personal terrace. The galley kitchen branches off inside and upstairs lie two bedrooms.

Let’s break down the details. The color palette is monochromatic in black, grey, and white. Materials vary from wood, metal, polished chrome, brushed stainless. Textures are refined and rough, smooth and nubby. Even the blend of shapes and weights creates interest and depth.

Light in substance, the matte black round metal tables are the focal point of the lounge. A nubby linen low rounded sofa holds its own on a textural graphic rug that could have inspired the entire modern home. Multiple pillows covered in a thick knit cable mimic a paint fan deck page from pale grey to ebony. Black denim slings over a polished chrome chair. White kitchen cabinets with a satiny sheen wear wood counters and even a timber back splash.

Upstairs on cleverly crafted wooden treads, two bedrooms have pops of color in their accessories only. The bath walls are lined with square tiles, black below with white above. I do see grey towels there!
