Haroshi: Re-constructed skateboard art

skateboard-art-haroshi

Haroshi is a Japanese sculpture who creates beautiful works of art from old skateboards. While to us novices they may all seem the same, skateboard structure varies according to factory, brand or popular skater’s signature models.

From his early teens Hiroshi has been a passionate skateboarder. His connection to skateboards goes beyond the sport and his choice of art portrays this. His creations reflect his spirit and aesthetic as a Japanese, for him the art pieces are equal to his skateboards and as a major part of his life they also serve as a means of communicating with himself and with the outside world. DIA Digital Photo Frame: illuminating concept

digital-photo-frame-dia

Digital photo frames have been around for a while. Most people I know have one (or more) because they received it as a present. After loading it once with pictures, they usually can’t be bothered to reload it again and it just “sits around” repeatedly showing a slideshow of one point in time. Eventually someone in the family gets frustrated enough to unplug the thing and add it to the “trendy gifts we got and aren’t going to use again” box.

Parrot have a few types of digital frames but the one I like the most is their newest addition: the DIA digital frame, developed in collaboration with Jean-Louis Frechin and Uros Petrevski of the NoDesign agency. Continue reading

Rock Door Stop: It Totally Rocks!

door-stop-rock

There are few things, better yet – items, that we need, that have the ability to make a small difference as far as our interior design goes. The Rock Door Stop is a perfect example for that. Any item that serves us for that purpose, is usually something that we improvise with what we have in the house – needless to say it doesn’t contribute at all to our home decor, if not downgrading it.

This unique door stop makes that difference – it is a functional door stopper that not only looks good but also works well. Fill it with sand or water to create the desired weight; it is also available in a variety of different colors. Finally, an item that rocks! Continue reading

Orange Peel Hangers : Giving It A “Second Chance”

orange-peel-hangers

With this “second chance” orange peel hanger your apartment will smell like a stroll through the orange groves of southern Italy. I was really impressed when I read about the “Second Chance” initiative by TourDeFork. Apart from the unspeakable fact that in the Western world, a large percent of the food we buy is simply thrown out uneaten, we also produce a lot of organic waste.

Traditionally in Italy and rural areas in other countries, people make creative use of all parts of the food they grow, not just the edible parts. Inspired by these customs, TourDeFork designed a collection of objects aimed to help us city folk reuse our kitchen waste, not just to make compost but actually giving it a ”Second Chance”. VaseMaker: More Flower Power

flower-vase-vasemaker

My first thought was: do I really need another vase? Because the truth is that even though I have a few I never seem to have exactly the right sized one and then I have to make my flowers fit the vase instead of the other way around. This is especially true when I want to decorate my windowsill or the table with a single flower or just a few branches, then I find myself improvising to find a “vase” the right size.

I was once again going through the “does it look like a vase?” ritual when I realized how smart the VaseMaker really is. Continue reading
