M by Madonna fashion line with H&M

H&M (Hennes & Mauritz) the international Swedish retail giant and their head of design Margareta van den Bosch have teamed up with Madonna to create a line of clothing and accessories that are scheduled to arrive in all stores carrying the women’s wear collection, around the world in March 2007.

Madonna has always been a cultural icon influencing on how people dress and look. The new “M by Madonna” fashion line represents her own personal and modern spin on her very own wardrobe. It includes glamorous tops, street-cool lumber jackets, tailored blazers and other apparel including shirt dresses and kimono-shaped dresses. A Madonna favourite is a stylish trench-coat in cotton poplin or leather. The entire line is embellished with a small ‘M’ logo on linings, zippers and buttons. In addition the ‘M by Madonna’ look includes a complete line of accessories from sunglasses, party bags and clutches and even skinny leather belts.

This is a combination of outfits I would love to wear. Bits and pieces have been inspired by the outfits in my own wardrobe, and also by what I love, like kimonos or my favorite Seventies vintage dress with the butterfly sleeves. I bought it in New York 10 years ago, and have worn it down to threads” Says Madonna.

The launch was in London’s Langham Hotel which was crowded by a great wall of paparazzi just waiting to get a glimpse of the famous star. Of course halfway through the evening Madonna’s muscled male dancers hit the floor to perform for guests.

Steven Klein, one of the most sought after and influential photographers working in fashion today, shot the campaign, which features Madonna modeling the clothes.
