Portable Coffeemaker: Boost Yourself on the Go

When we’re traveling outdoors, there is one magic rule – we miss the “homey” things, that we can’t have, the most. Coffee, for instance. Well, this portable coffeemaker, from Coleman, is a little surprise treat for our outdoorsy adventure. It delivers the best and easiest cup of coffee while camping, tailgating and beyond.

No cords, stove, or percolator required. It operates on a single standard 16.4 oz propane cylinder and it is easy to use – simply push the InstaStart auto ignition button to get the coffee brewing. Cleanup is so easy, too; the filter basket and carafe are both dishwasher-safe. The Coffeemaker is built to be easily portable and pack-able, so it’s convenient to bring along. Boost yourself with a hot cup-of-joe on the go. Continue reading

Arta Tea Infuser + Saucer: hang that old tea bag to dry

It’s so nice to make a relaxing cup of tea using this unique tea strainer with a built-in saucer. A very good friend of mine has this ritual – everyday at around five o’clock she stops what she’s doing and takes a tea break. I think it started when her kids were little and this was a good way to calm down and clear away the early evening blues.

She puts on a favorite CD (jazz or rock) and depending on the mood chooses her tea of the day. She has a wide selection of teas from all over the world, some with very strange flavor combinations, but all of them loose-leaf. Even though she has many tea infusers, as soon as I saw the Arta tea infuser I knew it was exactly her “cup of tea”. Continue reading

Hario V60 Buono Kettle Pour-Over Coffee: Being A Snob Never Tasted So Good

Good morning fellow coffee lovers, we now have another way to make coffee, it may not be new but it is gaining popularity: the pour-over method.

I was quite content making my coffee with a filter cone and a drip device – boiling water over freshly ground coffee then letting it slowly steep and drip while I do something else (usually sit and stare and count the drips…). Then I found out that if I pour the water over the grinds I would get a much improved cup of coffee. Seeing as I am willing to do almost anything for a good cup of coffee I started researching the subject. So this is what I found out about the perfect cup of pour-over coffee: Continue reading

“Tea Matter” Melodic Tea Strainer: Chirp Chirp

This wonderful tea strainer is the ingenious design of Hong Kong designer Alan Chan, and was inspired by a Chinese tradition. After spending five years in England, I have grown to love the custom of afternoon tea. This means that around five o’clock I take a break from whatever I’m doing and treat myself to half an hour of relaxing tea and biscuits, this is especially fun on weekends when my friends can join me. It came as a surprise to me when I learned that this British ritual only started in the late 1700’s but that tea drinking originated in China about 5000 years ago. Continue reading

The Face Mug: Cute And Personal

OK, I have a confession to make, I am one of those people who can’t resist all those mugs with the cute/humorous/personalized messages. I have a shelf full of mugs that I don’t use but can’t bring myself to throw out because they each have a story and instead of being “a useful object” they have become “meaningful”. Some of them I bought myself but most were given to me as a present. Continue reading

Mono Filio Teapot: How About a Cup?

The Mono Filio teapot has a graceful and restrained appearance to be the centerpiece of a contemporary, Western version of the tea ceremony. Place your favorite tea in the stainless steel mesh sieve, and watch the leaves unfold freely, as they release their aroma.

With a vertical stainless steel frame in which the glass bowl is suspended, the open stainless steel sieve gives tea space to fully develop. The leaves float freely, absorbing as much water as possible, and releasing the maximum amount of flavor and aroma into the brewing tea. How about a cup of… Continue reading

Mypressi Twist: Espresso On The Go

Espresso Ristretto – that single shot of pure coffee essence without which I find it very hard to start the day. I always go to the few places that make it as it should be – bold, flavorful with full body and less bitterness. But as with every addiction, the problem starts when I have to travel or just don’t have time to make my regular “coffee stop”. Usually I just skip the ritual but sometimes I am tempted to order a ristretto at whatever coffee shop I pass, the result being a really bad coffee let-down and then spending the next few hours snapping at everyone.
